Forum 6: Swatchy Schemey

The Image

For this assighment I gained inspiration from my favorite place, my bed! The decorative pillows that are placed on my bed consist of all my favorite colors, which made this project visually pleasing for myself. I based each color I used on one of my pillows. However, I didn't get to use all the pillows since we could only choose three main colors or swatches.

Swatches

When I was creating the swatches it was more difficult than I expected. Choosing the first round of colors, as seen in the first column to the left going down, took some time because I had to experiment with different hues in order to find the color that best matched the pillow I was using as my inspiration. However, the difficult part was creating faded colors, as seen in the next two columns, that weren't to drastic of a change from the first color. In order to create this faded effect I had to lower the tint percentages in each box more and more as I made my way to the right.

Nameplates

I learned the most about InDesign when creating my nameplates. After reading "Become a Master Designer: Rule 3: Contrast, Contrast, Contrast", I learned about the importance of contrasting colors especially when creating nameplates. It took numerous tries until I found what colors in my swatches best contrasted each other. This is so important when using text in InDesign because if you don't use the right colors, certain aspects of the text won't stand out or be noticed and the colors can fade into one another.
